The picture upturned
Face down and hidden
Inside the cold dark corner
Of my drawer
On days like this
She peeks through the crevice
And asks me a lot of whys, what’s and what ifs
In her avalanche of questions
She keeps telling me,
“I told you so, Curio
I told you so-
you dance to the beat of your drum –
Careless and crazy – you never listen”
I say -“Mommy, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree
I hid you away
In a drawer somewhere
Yet you come out
as usual, I see,
To question, complain and berate me”
You don’t listen
And neither do I
I hid you away
and you still have your say
‘Peace out mom –
Go easy and Take care’
She rolls her eyes
Muttering something wise
While I smile to myself and say-
“I know you try to protect me –
You were a warrior, but don’t forget, so am I”
